At the beginning of May, Palacký University Olomouc will hold elections for its new Academic Senate. The key governing body of the university, which approves the university budget, revises university regulations, and oversees how the dormitories and canteens operate, will be in office starting from September for the next three academic years. Each member of the academic community now has the opportunity to nominate a representative of their faculty from among staff and students.
Students and academics can nominate new as well as old members of the UP Academic Senate (UP AS) from any of the UP faculties until 19 April 2023. The form, signed also by the proposed candidate, is submitted to the chair of the election sub-committee at their faculty.
“Representation in the Academic Senate is an important mission and job – not only for the sake of the university, but also for the sake of the entire student and staff community. I firmly believe that each faculty will find as many suitable candidates as possible who can take on this responsibility,” said Jiří Langer, chair of the current UP AS.
The election for the “Grand Senate” of Palacký University will take place from 3 to 11 May. Every student and academic at UP will have the opportunity to vote electronically and help decide the future direction of the university. Each of the faculties is represented in the university Senate by two academics and one student, thus the Senate has 24 members. The term of office for the new UP Academic Senate will begin on 15 September 2023 and end on 15 May 2026.
