The Young Researcher Grant Competition aims to support excellent research by young researchers and members of academic staff below the age of 37 when establishing new research teams and laboratories, as well as developing their independent research agenda. Researchers who have completed a postdoctoral stay abroad are eligible for the competition. Applicants must meet the requirements defined by the applicable university policy. Applicants need not be employed by UP when submitting the proposal, but the person submitting the proposal must be identical to the principal researcher.
The principal investigator is an academician, scientist or researcher aged up to 37 years, who received a doctorate degree not more than 8 years ago, has excellent results, participates in international projects, and has completed a post-doctoral internship of a minimum of 3 months. The research team may also include other UP academic, scientific or research staff, UP students, and UP technical and professional staff. The project duration is 36 months.
Projects target one of the following research areas:
a) natural sciences, mathematics, and computer science,
b) medical sciences and biomedicine,
c) humanities and social sciences.
Project funding limits:
- minimum CZK 1 million (app. 39,000 €)
- maximum CZK 4 million (app. 156,000 €)
The competition is governed by UP Internal Regulation R-B-18/10-ÚZ01
Every applicant may submit the maximum of 1 project.
No investment resources are awarded in the competition.

- Call for competition: 18 March 2019
- Submission period: 18 March 2019 through 12 May 2019
- Review period: 13 May through 31 October 2019
- Announcement of results: 1 November 2019
- Launch of projects: January 2020
- Progress report deadline: 15 January 2021
- Final report deadline: within 31 days of project completion
Project proposals must be submitted electronically only, to the Science and Research Section, UP Rector’s Office: hana.prichystalova@upol.cz.
Proposals must be submitted by 12 May 2019.
Proposals must be in English language only.
Required proposal elements:
1) project title;
2) PI information:
- personal information (name, surname, date of birth, address of department/centre, telephone and e-mail),
- resume,
- a maximum of five of the most important publications,
- WoS/Scopus scientometric data (publication and citation count, H‑index), not required but encouraged in case of humanities and social sciences,
- the total list of publications and/or other scientific outputs,
- information about post-doc abroad;
3) information about the research team members or description of the main vacancies if no specific names have been given by the submission of the project proposal;
4) project summary (maximum 1,000 characters);
5) project description, justification and specification of required funding for each year of the grant duration (maximum 5 pages including relevant citations and figures);
6) project objectives;
7) analysis of the proposed method and a timeline of the project objectives, including compatibility with the research focus and infrastructure of the relevant Faculty;
8) a preliminary consent with the project granted on behalf of the department (at Palacký University Olomouc) at which the project is to be implemented. The consent constitutes a separate annex to the proposal.
